Lesson/ Founding Fathers

Write your own letter from one of the founding fathers re a current issue:

I, Thomas Jefferson, have re-joined my fellow American Patriots, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and Betsy Ross, to help take our country back from the corporate interests controlling our political system.

We've already tangled with the bankers on Wall Street and with these people you call lobbyists in Washington, D.C., but we cannot agree where to go next. In all honesty, it was easier to draft the Declaration than decide which of these knaves to pay a visit to. So, we thought: let the people decide.

Take our poll: where should we, the Founding Fathers (sorry Betsy), go next?

Two hundred and thirty years ago we rose up to throw off the yoke of British tyranny. Now we must throw off the yoke of British Petroleum!

Ben, George, Betsy, and I are troubled that purveyors of moneyed influence have taken control of democracy, and believe it's time to make sure our politicians are accountable to voters. We need a government of, by, and for the people. [Note to self: need to work that line in somewhere.]

So take a minute and answer our question: where should the Founding Fathers go next?

In deep appreciation for your help,

Your public servant,

I am,

Thomas Jefferson
Founding Father
